WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
Human trafficking, also known as trafficking in persons or modern-day slavery, is a $150 billion industry and a crime that involves compelling or coercing a person to provide labor or services, or to engage in commercial sex acts. The coercion can be subtle or overt, physical or psychological. Exploitation of a minor for commercial sex is human trafficking, regardless of whether any form of force, fraud, or coercion was used.

WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN?
Trafficking happens everyday and in every country, including the United States, with India being a major hub. It happens in cities, suburbs, and rural areas and affects people from all walks of life ---- irrespective of age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, immigration status, socio-economic status.
IN INDIA, AN ESTIMATED 30-65 MILLION PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED BY HUMAN TRAFFICKING, WITH WOMEN AND MINOR GIRLS BEING MAJORITY OF THE VICTIMS.
HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?
Traffickers use psychological and manipulation tactics to lure people in. They prey on the vulnerable for their own profit. Extreme poverty and a lack of job opportunities are chief factors for most individuals who find themselves exploited. They may even be members of the victim’s family or in a relationship with the victim, promising them a better life.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
